I have to say that I am not surprised by Lincoln grabbing the most nominations, it was a great movie that deserves the recognition. What I am truly happy about is that Django Unchained scored the second most nominations and I can’t wait to see what the movie holds. I am glad that both Leonardo DiCaprio is going to bring to the role of the villain. What really bugs me is that Game of Thrones not being nominated at all, I thought that this season was much better than the first, even though both are amazing. With the Oscars closing in I am wondering what nominations Django Unchained will grab and what movie will actually win Best Picture.

2013 Blockbuster Trailers Start Flooding in as The Hobbit Approaches

This week has been a very busy week, for me and the movie business. While I have something like finals the major movie studios are releasing trailers for all their upcoming blockbusters of 2013. While some movies this year didn’t live up to expectations I have a feeling that next year will be an amazing year for event pictures such as The Man of Steel, Pacific Rim, and the Lone Ranger, all of which I will be covering in this post.

Man of Steel

So far my opinion of Man of Steel have been growing with every new promotion material hits. The most recent poster was great, it showed Superman as the man he really is, instead of breaking out of the hand cuffs and flying away he remains in the restraints. This shows just how his character would actually react in the situation. With the beautiful cinematography and visuals so far I am glad that they choose Zack Synder for the role of director. He has always been a good director visually but this movie looks like a serious departure for him and more into the realm of Nolan’s Batman movies. What I like most about the trailer is it shows the troubles that Clark Kent faces with such abilities, something that has seriously been lacking in the movies. Other little things also make it seem realistic, like when he first flies the ground reacts to him taking off, something that would happen with his incredible strength, and the way he fly, like breaking the sound barrier another thing that would happen when he flies at such high speeds. So far this movie is at the top of my list for most anticipated for 2013 and I’m sure not much else will beat it.

Pacific Rim

Now if anything next year will be a wild card it is definitely going to be Pacific Rim. I don’t know how the general public is going to react to a movie of this caliber. It has the potential to be a fun filled action movie, something the Transformers movies and the most recent Godzilla are not. I have faith in Guillermo del Toro with this movie he has way of creating fantasy movies that are simply awesome and so far this looks like it is going to roughly the same. The plot about giant robots taking on giant monsters is something I have wanted to see on the big screen for a while, since the original Godzilla is my favorite foreign film of all time, but I always feared that it would suck quality wise. With great talent both on the screen and behind it I am eagerly awaiting how this film will turn out.

The Lone Ranger

Right now, nothing has me quite disappointed as The Lone Ranger does. There is a lot at stake here, Disney trying to find another property like Pirates of the Caribbean that they can make as successful. So far two tries have failed, Prince of Persia and John Carter, and The Lone Ranger I feel is going to fall under that category. The trailer I feels focuses a little to much on the character of the Lone Ranger to much instead of the plot. It is good to see him more of the focus here than Tonto but it was a little to much, like if the company didn’t know quite how to market it so they are trying to give away the entire back story of the character in the trailer. To me it has potential that could make this movie great but I have yet to see anything that really has sparked my interest.
