Rock Em’ Sock Em’ Robots

Real Steel

The first time I saw the trailer for this movie the only thing going through my head was “Rock Em’ Sock Em’ Robots”. I mean boxing Robots just seemed like a silly premise and that it was to strange for me to enjoy. It was hard for to ever think that this movie would be any good, how can you care a movie about robot boxing exactly. When I finished watching the blu-ray, I was completely surprised about the outcome of the final product and it was a pleasant surprise at that.

In a future world where flesh-and-blood boxers have been replaced by towering mechanized fighters, pugilist-turned-promoter Charlie Kenton reconnects with his estranged son, Max, to convert a discarded machine into a World Robot Boxing contender. This may seem like a silly sounding movie but it was a well crafted and entertaining movie that I am glad to say that I immensely enjoyed it.

The movie itself is much more about futuristic boxing robots, it is about a father trying to reconnect with the son that he did not pay attention to, he kept forgetting his age and completely sold him to his aunt. Hugh Jackman played the estranged father very well and makes the character real and kind of a douche-bag. The special effects are top notch and the fights between the robots were well done and very exciting to watch. Like most sports movie it is about redemption in the human spirit and in the end it succeeds at doing that. It may have had some scenes that are reminiscent of Rocky, and countless other boxing movies, which doesn’t bother me but could have bothered people, like my friend pointed out during the movie.

For anyone who is interested in any kind of action movie this is one I would recommend. It is also much more than that and I really liked the aspect of the father son relationship part of the movie.

The Hobbit Teaser Trailer

One movie that is highly anticipated this year is The Hobbit. It is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It follows the tale of Bilbo Baggins and what magnificent journey that he had before the events of the Fellowship of the Ring. For me, I can’t wait for this movie, I’ve never read the book but I absolutely love the Lord of the Rings movies. I can’t wait to see what Peter Jackson and the team behind this film bring to an already awesome set of movies. It seems like it is a dark tale involving more of the Dwarven culture and more locations and lore that the original films did not include. Check out the trailer below:

Just starting out.

Since this is my first post I will just summarize my blogging ideas. I will review certain movies that I catch in theaters or pick up when released on Blu ray. Occasionally  I will analysis certain movie, Inception and others, but given the nature of analyzing films I will only do it once in a while. I hope that you enjoy what comes up in the blog and encourage you to voice your opinions when ever you feel like doing so.
