My Favorites of 2011

This was a hard list to put together since I have yet to see the Artist, so I will update it when I do see it. The tope three where difficult to choose which I liked the most because I enjoyed them in different ways. 2011 was not the best year in film, it both struggled immensely at the box office and fail to bring any truly great blockbusters to the table, though there are some that are pretty great but this year none cracked the top 5.

1. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

2. Drive

3. 13 Assassins

4. 50/50

5. Hugo

6. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

7. Midnight in Paris

8. X-Men First Class

9. Rise of the Planet of the Apes

10. Rango

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was just a great film that did a great job with bringing the book to life and featured some truly great performances. Drive was an intense thriller that was a well crafted film with a quiet yet powerful performance from Ryan Gosling. 13 Assassins was one of the greatest foreign films that I saw this year it featured a great plot and some great action set pieces. 50/50 was a great comedy that showed the hardships of cancer on the family while adding some funny humor to the mix. Hugo presented a tale that only got better as it went along, at first I had not idea what it would be about, and succeed in showing the importance of film preservation and the determination of a young boy. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol brought back the life of a dying franchise and successful made a awesome action movie that feature some truly amazing action set pieces. Midnight in Paris was all around just a great movie that has a great story that teaches the main character a lot of stuff that he would never have learned with out it. X-Men First Class showed that there is still something left in the franchise and made the X-Men fun again, after the last two movies. Rise of the Planet of the Apes once again brought new life to a dying franchise and made the apes something to care about, they were made so realistic it was had to tell at points, and made the franchise enjoyable again. Rango probably the best animated movie of the year, with a plot that resembles Chinatown, it made me excited to see this movie again and again because the characters and animation were just amazing.
